A couple photographer in the Zillertal is a photographer who takes natural portraits of two people — on holiday, for an anniversary or just because — on the meadows, roads and huts of the valley, guiding you lightly so the pictures feel like you rather than a pose. The Zillertaler Höhenstraße makes couple sessions easy to stage without hiking. According to the Zillertal tourism board it climbs to as much as 2,010 metres and can be reached by five ascents between Ried and Hippach, and its 2026 season started around the end of May, weather permitting; buses ran until the beginning of October from Hippach to Melchboden and from Ried and Kaltenbach to the Zirmstadl. The road is tolled. Along it you find huts such as the Grünalm at 1,800 metres and the Almgasthaus Zellberg Stüberl at 1,835 metres, and the Zillertal Arena lists the valley’s only alpine garden, reached on foot from the road. Because the road runs high on the slope, the evening sun stays on you much longer than in the villages below — in late June until around 9.10 pm.

Good to know

Drive up 90 minutes before sunset; the climb from Ried or Hippach takes longer than the distance suggests.
Pick one ascent for the way up and another for the way down to see both ends of the road in one evening.
In early summer the meadows flower; from September the light turns warmer and the grass golden, but huts close earlier.
