Newborn photographers in Austria

Babies change unbelievably fast. The curled-up pose, the tiny fingers, the milk spots — after a few weeks they are gone. Newborn photographers usually work in the first two weeks after birth, when babies sleep deeply and can be settled more easily, but lifestyle sessions at home with a slightly older baby are just as lovely and much less about posing.

A good newborn session runs entirely at the baby’s pace: feeding and cuddling breaks whenever needed, a warm room, and no poses that put the baby at risk. Many photographers come to your home in Vienna, Graz or Linz so you do not have to travel with a newborn; others have a studio set up for it. Tell us your due date and we find someone available around the birth.

How to plan it

  1. 1

    Enquire before the birth

Since no one knows the exact day, photographers reserve a window around your due date and fix the session once the baby is here. Getting in touch in the last trimester gives the most choice.

  2. 2

    Decide between home and studio

At home, the baby stays in familiar surroundings and the photos show your real space. A studio offers controlled light, warmth and props. Both work — it is about what feels easier for you.

  3. 3

Plan for a long, slow morning

Sessions often take longer than you expect because of feeding and settling. Keep the room warm, have a feed ready and plan siblings’ photos at the start, while they are still patient.

Frequently asked questions

How old should my baby be for a newborn shoot?

For sleepy, curled-up photos, many photographers recommend the first two weeks. After that, lifestyle sessions with a more awake baby are a great alternative. If the baby arrives early or needs hospital care, the session is simply moved.

Is newborn photography safe for my baby?

Experienced newborn photographers put safety first: the baby is always supported, never left unattended and complex poses are made from several images rather than forced. Ask the photographer about their approach when you get your quote.

Can older siblings join the session?

Yes, and it is often a favourite part. Siblings are usually photographed first, before they get tired or bored. Parents’ photos with the baby can be included too.
