By then the bump is clearly visible but most people still feel mobile. Get in touch earlier so the date can be fixed in time; with twins or a complicated pregnancy, a slightly earlier session is safer.

Choose the setting for the season
From May to October, outdoor sessions in the evening light work well. In winter, or if you tire easily, a session at home or in a heated studio is more comfortable.

Think about outfits early
Fitted dresses or a partner’s shirt show the bump better than loose tops. Some photographers have a small wardrobe of maternity dresses — ask about it when you get your quote.

When should I book my maternity photoshoot?

Contact us in the second trimester and plan the session for around weeks 30 to 36. That leaves room to move the date if you are unwell or the weather is bad.

Can my partner and children be in the photos?

Of course. Many sessions start with the bump alone and then include the partner, siblings or even the dog. Mention who will join so the photographer can plan the time.

Can I combine a maternity and a newborn shoot?

Some photographers offer both, which makes for a consistent style across the two sessions. Say so in your request and we look for someone who covers both.
