Photographers in Salzburg
Salzburg is compact enough to cover several beautiful backdrops in a single session: the baroque old town on one bank of the Salzach, Mirabell Gardens on the other, and the fortress and Mönchsberg above it all with the mountains behind.
The Marble Hall in Mirabell Palace is one of Austria’s best-known places for civil weddings, and the city is a favourite for proposals and for visitors following Mozart or The Sound of Music.

Photo spots in Salzburg
- 01
Mirabell Gardens
Geometric flower beds with the fortress framed in the background. The Pegasus fountain and the rose hill are popular — early morning is best.
- 02
Old town & Getreidegasse
Wrought-iron shop signs, arcaded passageways and quiet courtyards. The side passages are often calmer than the main street.
- 03
Mönchsberg
A short lift ride from the old town to walking paths with views over the rooftops, domes and river. Great at sunset.
- 04
Salzach riverbank & Makartsteg
The footbridge with its love locks and the riverside promenade give a classic view of the old town and fortress.
- 05
Hellbrunn Palace park
South of the centre, with wide lawns, ponds and the pavilion known from The Sound of Music. Good for families and relaxed couple sessions.
When to go
Late spring through early autumn brings the gardens in bloom and long evenings. Summer is festival season and the old town gets busy during the day. Advent in Salzburg is atmospheric, with markets on Domplatz and Residenzplatz.

Frequently asked questions
Can we get married in the Marble Hall of Mirabell Palace?
The Marble Hall is used for civil ceremonies by the Salzburg registry office. Dates and requirements are set by the city, so contact the registry office first and book the photographer once your date is confirmed.
Is Salzburg very crowded?
Daytime in summer and during the festival can be busy in the old town. Sessions in the early morning or on Mönchsberg and in Hellbrunn are much calmer.
Can the shoot include the lakes outside Salzburg?
Yes, the Salzkammergut lakes such as Fuschlsee or Wolfgangsee are within driving distance. Travel time is usually reflected in the quote.
