Drone filming and aerial photography in Austria

From the air, Austria makes sense in one frame: a lakeside hotel with the mountains behind it, a vineyard estate in the Wachau, a wedding venue and its gardens, a festival ground at dusk. Drone footage is rarely a film on its own; it usually delivers establishing shots and smooth fly-overs that a videographer cuts into a wedding film, hotel or tourism video, or property presentation, plus high-resolution aerial photos for websites, listings and print.

Flying is regulated. In Austria the EU drone rules apply, operators register with Austro Control, and there are restrictions near airports, in protected areas and over crowds of people. That is why the licensed operator checks what is allowed at your location before the shoot and plans the flight accordingly — some places need extra time to clear, and some shots are simply not possible. Tell us where and what you want to show, and we connect you with drone operators in our network.

How to plan it

  1. 1

    Share the exact location early

Send an address or map pin, not just the town. The operator needs it to check airspace and local restrictions, and some locations need more lead time before a flight can take place.

  2. 2

    Decide photo, video or both

Aerial stills for a listing or website take less time than a planned fly-over sequence for a film. Say what the footage is for so the operator can plan flight paths and battery time.

  3. 3

    Keep a weather window

Drones do not fly in strong wind, rain or poor visibility, and mountain weather changes fast. Agree on a backup date or a flexible time slot for outdoor shoots.

Frequently asked questions

Is drone filming allowed everywhere in Austria?

No. EU drone rules apply in Austria, and flying is restricted near airports, in protected areas and over crowds of people, among other places. The operator checks what applies at your location before the shoot and tells you which shots are possible.

Can a drone film our wedding guests?

Flying directly over a crowd is restricted. Operators plan shots that keep the drone away from people, for example a fly-over of the venue or a group shot taken from the side. Ask early so the operator can assess your venue.

Do we need permission from the property owner?

If you are filming a property or venue, the owner or manager should agree to the flight and the take-off spot. The operator will tell you if anything else is needed for your location.

Can we book drone footage together with a photographer or videographer?

Yes. Many videographers fly drones themselves, and others work with a separate operator. Mention in your request that you want aerial footage and we look for someone who covers both.
