Drone filming in Innsbruck

A drone operator in Innsbruck is a registered pilot who films and photographs from the air – hotels, properties, building sites, events and landscapes – and checks before every flight what is allowed at that exact place. Innsbruck adds two layers to the usual EU rules. The city has its own airport, so the geographical zones shown in Austro Control’s Dronespace map matter for many addresses. And the mountains to the north belong to the Karwendel nature park, which asks that every drone flight be coordinated with the park administration in advance, even when a permit has been granted.

The park’s guidance is specific: keep drone use to the minimum, fly within 120 m of the ground, prefer small and quiet battery drones, stay at least 500 m from nesting sites from 1 February to 31 July, and in deep winter avoid ridges and summits before 10.00 and after 16.00. In the city itself, the open category means staying in sight of the drone, never flying over crowds and keeping a safe distance from people. Send us the address or a map pin, and the operator checks what is possible.

    Hotels and properties in Igls

Detached houses and hotels on the plateau with the Nordkette across the valley – classic aerial shots for listings and websites.

  2. 02

    Inn river and Mariahilf

A view along the river with the colourful houses, if the zone allows it; crowded riverbanks are filmed from the side, not overflown.

    Nordkette slopes

Only after coordination with the Karwendel park administration, and outside the nesting season near cliffs.

Good to know

  • Send an exact address or map pin at least two weeks ahead; flights in the Karwendel need coordination with the park, and permits for commercial shoots take longer.
  • Book drone shoots for February to July away from cliffs and nesting sites, or move them to August–January.
  • Keep a backup date: drones stay on the ground in strong wind, rain or low cloud, which is common on the Nordkette.

Frequently asked questions

Is drone flying allowed over Innsbruck?

It depends on the exact location. The EU open category applies, operators of drones with a camera must register, and Austro Control’s Dronespace map shows the geographical zones around Innsbruck, including near its airport. The operator checks your address before the shoot.

Can a drone film on the Nordkette above Innsbruck?

The mountains above Innsbruck, Hafelekar included, belong to the Karwendel nature park, which asks that every drone flight be agreed with the park administration beforehand. It also asks pilots to keep 500 m from nests between February and July and to fly considerately, stopping if animals react.

Can we have drone shots of our event in Innsbruck?

Yes, as long as the drone does not fly over the crowd. The operator plans shots from the side or of the venue before guests arrive, keeps a safe distance from people and agrees take-off spots with the venue.
