Maternity photographer in Graz

A maternity photographer in Graz is a photographer who photographs you during the last weeks of pregnancy – alone, with your partner or with an older sibling – at a slow pace, with breaks and poses that stay comfortable. Graz has an unusual place for it that works in any season: the glasshouses of the University of Graz Botanical Garden at Holteigasse 6, in the villa quarter along Schubertstraße. Designed by Volker Giencke and opened in 1995, they are a tilted, parabolic structure of acrylic glass with wooden walkways and bridges, holding four climate zones: a tropical house with orchids and mangroves, a cool house with citrus trees and eucalyptus, a temperate house with South American and Australian plants, and a house for cacti and succulents.

Under the glass the light is soft and even, the air is warm in winter, and the green backdrop changes from one house to the next. Check the garden’s current opening times and ask it about photography before booking, as the garden sets its own rules. Between May and September an evening session outdoors is the alternative, and from November to February many mothers prefer to be photographed at home. A session takes about an hour with breaks, and the edited gallery follows within a few days.

Good to know

  • Moving from the cold outside into the tropical house fogs lenses; allow 10 minutes for the camera to warm up before the first frames.
  • From November to February the sun sets between about 4:10 and 4:35 pm in Graz, so outdoor bump photos need an early-afternoon slot.
  • Wear flat shoes for the wooden walkways and bridges between the glasshouses, and bring a light cardigan for the cooler houses.

Frequently asked questions

Can I have my maternity photos taken in the Botanical Garden in Graz?

The glasshouses of the Botanical Garden of the University of Graz are a beautiful setting for maternity photos. The garden sets its own opening times and photography rules, so ask it before booking and your maternity photographer will plan around the answer.

Where can I do a maternity shoot in Graz in winter?

Indoors: the warm glasshouses of the Botanical Garden, a heated studio or your own home. In Graz the sun sets soon after four in December, so a maternity shoot outdoors in winter is short and needs an early-afternoon start.

Can my partner and our older child join the maternity session in Graz?

Of course. Many maternity sessions in Graz start with photos of you alone and then add your partner, siblings or both. Tell us who will join so there is time for each combination without rushing.
