Holiday photographer in the Zillertal

A holiday photographer in the Zillertal is a photographer who joins you for an hour or two during your stay — a couple, a family, a group of friends — and takes natural pictures of your holiday in the villages, on the mountains or at a local festival, so that for once everyone is in the photos. You meet at your hotel or a place you like, the session follows what you would be doing anyway, and the edited gallery arrives a few weeks after you get home.

Autumn brings the valley’s most photogenic tradition into the village streets. At the Zell am Ziller Almabtrieb, which the Zillertal Arena held on 26 September in 2026, decorated cattle return from the alpine pastures through the centre between about 9 am and 4.30 pm, some herds walking more than 40 km to their home farms; around them run a farmers’ market with crafts such as basket weaving, carving and schnapps distilling, music and Zillertal Krapfen. In Mayrhofen, the tourism board has announced the Zillertal Farmers’ & Musical Autumn for the weekends of 24–25 September and 1–2 October 2027, from 10 am to 5 pm on Josef-Riedl-Platz, with a traditional procession along the Hauptstraße on 2 October at 2 pm and a photo point on the square. Both make a lively, very local backdrop for holiday pictures.

Good to know

  • For the Almabtrieb, arrive by public transport or use the Zillertal Arena car park at the Karspitzbahn and the free shuttle bus to the centre.
  • The number of cattle drives depends on the weather, and the schedule can change; keep the morning flexible.
  • In late September the sun sets around 7.05 pm, but in the village streets the light goes much earlier — plan portraits before 5 pm.

Frequently asked questions

What does a holiday photographer in the Zillertal photograph?

Your real holiday: the family at breakfast on the terrace, a walk to a hut, the kids watching the cattle drive. A holiday photographer in the Zillertal joins you for one or two hours and keeps it relaxed and unposed.

Can the holiday photographer come to the Almabtrieb with us?

Yes. The Almabtrieb in Zell am Ziller and the Farmers’ Autumn in Mayrhofen are public events in the village streets, so the photographer simply walks with you and captures the atmosphere around your family or group.

When is the best season for holiday photos in the Zillertal?

Summer brings green pastures and open mountain roads, late September the cattle drives and festivals, and winter the snow. A holiday photographer in the Zillertal works all year, adapting place and time of day to the season.
