Holiday photoshoot in Hallstatt

Most visitors see Hallstatt in a few hours, squeezed between tour groups on a narrow lakeside lane. A holiday photoshoot changes that: a photographer who knows the village times your session for the quieter hours, takes you to angles beyond the famous viewpoint and makes sure you are actually in your holiday photos.

Tell us when you arrive, whether you are staying overnight or coming by train or car for the day, and who is coming. We find a photographer who can fit around your plans in the Salzkammergut.

Location ideas in Hallstatt

  1. 01

    Arriving by ferry

Hallstatt station is on the opposite shore, and a small ferry crosses to the village. The view of the houses rising from the water as you approach is one of the best in Austria.

  2. 02

    Market square and church steps

Painted houses, flower boxes and narrow stairways lead up to the Catholic church and its cemetery terrace. Early morning is far calmer than late morning.

  3. 03

    World Heritage Skywalk

The funicular from the Lahn end of the village climbs to a platform high above the rooftops and lake — a big-picture view few day-trippers include.

  4. 04

    Five Fingers on the Krippenstein

From Obertraun the Dachstein cable car leads to a viewing platform over the lake. A longer outing, best combined with a full day in the area.

Good to know

  • Tour groups peak from late morning to mid-afternoon; early morning or evening sessions are far more relaxed.
  • Parking is outside the village and limited in peak season — arriving by train and ferry is often easier.
  • In winter the sun drops behind the mountains early, so book a midday slot for light on the village.

Frequently asked questions

We are visiting Hallstatt as part of a tour. Can we still book a session?

Yes. Tell us how long your stop is; a short session in the village fits into most tour schedules if it starts as soon as you arrive.

Is Hallstatt good for a family holiday shoot?

Yes, though the lanes are narrow and busy at midday. With children, an early slot and a route along the lakeshore is easiest.
