Engagement photographer in the Zillertal

An engagement photographer in the Zillertal is a photographer who takes relaxed portraits of the two of you after the proposal and before the wedding — for save-the-date cards, the wedding website or simply as a memory — and uses the session to get you used to the camera before the big day. An engagement shoot here typically lasts 60 to 90 minutes in one or two locations, and the edited gallery follows within about two weeks.

The Ahorn above Mayrhofen gives an engagement shoot something rare in a deep valley: evening light that is not cut off by the mountains. The Ahornbahn climbs from about 680 to 2,000 metres in six and a half minutes, and on selected Fridays in summer the Mayrhofen-Hippach tourism board lists the sunset gondola, with the cable car running from 5.15 pm. Up on the plateau, in mid-July the sun sets at around 9.05 pm and in mid-August at around 8.25 pm — long after the valley floor has fallen into shade. A walking path loops around the Ahornsee, so the session moves from water to open pasture without long walks in good shoes.

Good to know

  • Check the published sunset gondola Fridays when you plan; they change from season to season.
  • On a July sunset-gondola Friday, the 5.15 pm ascent leaves almost four hours on the plateau before the sun goes down — enough for a relaxed session and dinner.
  • Bring a jacket for both of you: at 2,000 metres the evening air cools quickly once the sun drops behind the ridges.

Frequently asked questions

When is the best time for an engagement shoot in the Zillertal?

For engagement photos in the Zillertal, summer evenings on a plateau such as the Ahorn give the longest soft light. In the valley the sun disappears behind the slopes early, so mornings or a high spot work better than the valley floor.

Can we use the photos for our save-the-date cards?

Yes. Engagement photos from the Zillertal are delivered in high resolution for print and in a smaller size for the web, so they work on save-the-date cards, invitations and your wedding website.

What should we wear for engagement photos on the Ahorn?

Choose outfits that you feel comfortable in and that coordinate without matching. On the Ahorn plateau add sturdy shoes for the paths around the lake and a warm layer for after sunset; heels can be carried in a bag.
