Engagement photographer in the Wachau

An engagement photographer in the Wachau is a photographer who spends an hour or two with an engaged couple among the orchards and vineyards of the Danube valley, creating pictures for save-the-date cards, a wedding website or simply for the two of you. The season that makes the Wachau different is the apricot blossom. The Wachauer Marille is a protected designation of origin in the EU, grown by around 220 apricot farmers according to the regional tourism board, and when the trees flower the slopes between the vines turn white and pale pink.

The blossom lasts only a short time and its date moves with the weather, so an engagement shoot in this season is booked with a flexible window of a week or so. An easy setting is the apricot experience trail between Krems and Angern, about 7.4 km long and roughly two hours on foot, which leads through orchards rather than steep terraces. In early April the sun sets around 7.40 pm. The session usually runs 60 to 90 minutes with one change of outfit, and you receive an edited gallery that includes horizontal images for printed cards.

Courtyards, old wine-press houses and the church above the village give the session a second look in under ten minutes’ walk.

In autumn the terraces around Spitz turn gold and offer the same views without blossom-season crowds.

Good to know

  • Reserve a window of 7 to 10 days for a blossom shoot and decide the exact date 2 or 3 days ahead with the forecast.
  • Wear plain colours: white blossom and pale bark already fill the frame, and strong patterns compete with them.
  • Stay on the paths – the orchards belong to the 220 or so apricot farmers, and trees in blossom must not be climbed or shaken.

The apricot blossom in spring and the golden vineyards in autumn are the two classic windows. The blossom is short and weather-dependent, so engagement shoots in that season are planned with a flexible date.

Yes. Tell your engagement photographer how you plan to use the photos, and the session will include horizontal and vertical images with space for text, delivered in print resolution.

Very much so. The apricot experience trail between Krems and Angern is about 7.4 km through orchards, roughly two hours on foot, and the photographer only needs a short section of it for a full engagement session.
