Wedding videographer in the Wachau

A wedding videographer in the Wachau is a filmmaker who records a wedding day in moving pictures and sound – vows, speeches, music and the atmosphere of the valley – and edits it into a short highlight film and, if you like, a longer documentary cut. Sound is what sets a film apart from photos, so the videographer places small microphones on the officiant or the groom and records the speeches directly from the venue’s mixing desk.

Göttweig Abbey, on its hill at 422 metres at the eastern edge of the Wachau, shows how much a venue’s rules shape a film. Its wedding brochure lists the abbey church for about 300 guests and the Sommerrefektorium for up to 120, and civil ceremonies can be held in the abbey once the date is fixed with the Standesamt Mautern. The same brochure bans drones, fireworks, balloons, lanterns and wedding doves across the grounds, and no confetti, petals or rice may be thrown anywhere – so the classic exit shot is planned differently, for example with bubbles or simply applause. The upper terrace, about 930 m², can only be used in good weather. A full-day wedding film usually covers eight to ten hours, from preparations to the first dance; delivery time is agreed in advance.

Good to know

  • If you marry at Göttweig, tell the videographer before the day: drones are banned on the whole abbey grounds, so aerial shots must be filmed elsewhere or left out.
  • Plan the exit without confetti, rice or petals at Göttweig; a 2-minute applause line on the steps films just as well.
  • Ask the band or DJ for a line-out from the mixing desk – the Brunnensaal allows music only until 2 am, so the key speeches and dances happen earlier.

Frequently asked questions

Can our wedding videographer fly a drone at Göttweig Abbey?

No. Göttweig Abbey bans drones across the entire grounds, as its wedding brochure states. A wedding videographer can film aerial views of the Wachau elsewhere before or after the day, if the airspace allows it.

Can we have a civil wedding at Göttweig Abbey in the Wachau?

Yes. Civil ceremonies are possible in the Sommerrefektorium, a seminar room or the Brunnensaal, after the date has been fixed with the Standesamt Mautern. The church wedding is arranged separately through the abbey’s church office.

How long is a wedding film from the Wachau?

Most couples choose a highlight film of three to six minutes plus, if they wish, a longer cut of the ceremony and speeches. The wedding videographer agrees the formats and delivery date before booking.
