Proposal photographer in the Zillertal

A proposal photographer in the Zillertal is a photographer who hides at a planned spot, photographs the moment you ask the question without your partner noticing anything beforehand, and then takes a short portrait session of the two of you while the excitement is still fresh. The whole thing usually lasts 30 to 60 minutes, and you receive the edited pictures within a few days — fast enough to share the news.

The Hintertux Glacier operator actively offers support for proposals. Its own page names three settings — a gondola breakfast, the Natur Eis Palast, which lies 30 metres inside the glacier, and the panorama terrace at 3,250 metres — and asks couples to contact its marketing department by e-mail or phone to arrange the details. Reaching the terrace takes three cable cars and about 40 minutes from the valley station in Hintertux, the lifts run daily from 8.15 am to 4.30 pm all year, and the operator points out that there are no toilets on the terrace, so the last stop with facilities is the Tuxer Fernerhaus at 2,660 metres. Because the glacier is open 365 days a year, this proposal works in July as well as in January.

Good to know

  • Contact the glacier’s marketing department at least two weeks ahead so the proposal and the photographer’s position can be agreed.
  • At 3,250 metres the air is thin and cold even in August: pack gloves and a warm layer, and keep the ring in an inner pocket.
  • Go up on the first lifts after 8.15 am; the terrace is quietest early, and clouds often build over the main ridge by midday.

Frequently asked questions

Can we really propose on the Hintertux Glacier?

Yes. The glacier operator in the Zillertal publishes a proposal offer and helps with the arrangements on request. Your proposal photographer coordinates with the team so they are in position before you arrive at the terrace or ice palace.

How does the photographer stay hidden at a Zillertal proposal?

They arrive earlier, pose as a tourist with a camera and stand where you agreed. A signal — a jacket zipped up, a ring box in hand — tells them when to start. Your partner usually notices nothing until afterwards.

What happens after the proposal photos?

Right after the yes, the proposal photographer takes 20 to 30 minutes of couple portraits on the glacier or back in the valley. Within a few days you receive an online gallery to share with family and friends.
