Family photographer in Linz

A family photographer in Linz is a photographer who spends about an hour with parents, children and often grandparents, keeps everyone playing and moving, and turns the moments in between into a natural set of family pictures. For children, the Pöstlingberg is the most exciting place to do this. The ride up on the old mountain tram already makes good pictures, and at the top waits the Grottenbahn, opened in 1906 inside one of the old fortification towers: children ride the dragon Lenzibald through the realm of the dwarves and then walk through a replica of the Linz Hauptplatz as it looked around 1900, with fairy-tale scenes in the side lanes.

A family session lasts 45 to 60 minutes and is planned around naps and meals rather than the clock. On the Pöstlingberg the photographer usually starts outside on the lawns and terraces while energy is high, takes one calm group picture with the city below for the grandparents, and lets the children lead the way towards the Grottenbahn for the last, most spontaneous frames. You receive an edited online gallery; the number of images and the delivery time are fixed in the quote. Families who live in Linz often prefer a park close to home or the Danube bank in Urfahr instead. Send us the children’s ages and a few possible dates.

    Grottenbahn and dwarf kingdom

The dragon train and the miniature old Linz are dim inside, so the photographer focuses on the queue, the entrance and the moment the children come back out beaming.

    Lawns by the Pöstlingberg basilica

Room to run with the whole city and the Danube valley behind you; the best spot for the family group photo.

A real piece of Linz family life: shots of the children with their faces at the tram window as it climbs out of the city.

Good to know

  • The Grottenbahn is published as open from 1 March to 1 November, 10 am to 5 pm (until 6 pm from June to August), plus Advent Sundays; the last dragon ride leaves 30 minutes before closing.
  • From November to February the Grottenbahn is closed except in Advent, so book a winter family session for an Advent Sunday or plan it around the Volksgarten Christmas market instead.
  • Start the session at 10 am with toddlers: the light on the terraces is still soft, and you can ride the dragon train before the afternoon queues.

Frequently asked questions

Where are good places for a family photoshoot in Linz?

The Pöstlingberg combines open lawns, a view over the city and the Grottenbahn, which children love. For a quieter family session, the Danube banks in Urfahr or a park in your own neighbourhood in Linz work just as well.

Can the family photographer in Linz come with us into the Grottenbahn?

The family photographer can join you, but the ride and the fairy-tale world are dark, so photos inside are few and atmospheric. Most of the family gallery comes from outside on the Pöstlingberg; ask the Grottenbahn about photography inside when you buy tickets.

How long does a family shoot in Linz take with small children?

Plan 45 to 60 minutes. That is long enough for a group picture, some play and a few portraits of each child, and short enough that toddlers stay cheerful. If the family is large, the family photographer starts with the big group photo.
