Family photographer in Bregenz

A family photographer in Bregenz is a photographer who photographs parents, children and often grandparents together in a relaxed outdoor session, keeping the pace to the youngest and letting the place give the children something to do. On the Pfänder above the city that place is ready-made: the Alpine wildlife park begins right behind the cable car’s mountain station, entry is free, it is open all year during the day, and a circular trail of about half an hour leads past ibex, red deer, mouflons, wild boar, dwarf goats and rabbits. Children forget the camera when a deer looks back at them.

The cable car has ramps at the valley and mountain stations for prams and wheelchairs, dogs ride along on a lead, and the ascent takes six minutes. We meet at the valley station, take the first pictures in the cabin and spend about an hour on the summit: the wildlife trail, a break, and a last group picture with the lake far below. The trail has a few steep passages, so a baby carrier is easier than a pram for the full loop. You receive an edited online gallery; one hour usually gives 50 to 80 finished pictures.

Alpine wildlife park on the Pfänder

Free and open all year in daylight. The red deer have the largest enclosure, and the marmots hibernate from mid-October until mid-March, so visit in summer if the children want to see them.

If the Pfänder is in cloud, the lakeside gardens in town give flat paths, lawns and room to run, right beside the harbour.

Good to know

  • The Pfänder cable car runs daily from 8.00 to 19.00, on the hour and half hour and every 15 minutes when more than ten people are waiting.
  • The operator closes the cable car for an annual inspection (in 2025 from 3 to 26 November); check its opening-hours page before booking a family session on the mountain.
  • Check the weather before going up: on foggy days in the valley the summit is often in sunshine, and the reverse happens too.
  • Bring a baby carrier for the half-hour loop; the trail through the wildlife park has a few steep sections.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Pfänder suitable for a family shoot with small children?

Yes. The Pfänder cable car has ramps for prams at both stations, and the free wildlife park starts right after the mountain station. A family photographer in Bregenz can photograph the cabin ride, the animals and a view over Lake Constance within about an hour.

Which animals can children see in the Pfänder wildlife park?

The Alpine wildlife park on the Pfänder above Bregenz keeps ibex, red deer, mouflons, wild boar, marmots, dwarf goats and rabbits. The marmots hibernate from mid-October to mid-March, which matters if you plan a winter family shoot.

What if it rains on the day of our family session in Bregenz?

Family photographers in Bregenz usually agree a backup date. On mixed days the summit and the valley can have very different weather, so we decide on the morning whether to go up the Pfänder or stay on the lakeside paths.
